    • Earth Day and Arbor Day discussions: cutting down on waste from our snacks/meals, deforestation, history of satellites (viewing our planet over time)

    • Sequence and patterns: review and test
    • "Trashketball" Order of operations practice/review game
    • MashUp Math: Earth Day (order of operations)
  • English
    • Root -ped-
    • Information EBooks: research trails, identifying chapter topics, looking at mentor examples
    • MYSTERY (genre) Reading Groups! After discussions about the features of mystery stories we read a Sherlock Holmes play to practice identifying those elements and taking notes about witnesses/suspects/clues, etc. Then, students chose from 6 book options and learned who their reading group members will be. They will begin the books this week, so they should be reading at home!
  • Science
    • Unit 5 test
    • Begin Unit 6: Earth Physics - Read about how sound works, students participated in a hands-on lab about sound/sound waves!
  • Social Studies/Global Perspectives
    • China: learned about 2 more dynasties of China and their achievements. Students also travelled the Silk Road to learn about the many different goods traded and why the route was so important (wealth, communication, acquisition of goods, spread of Buddhism)

    • Christiansted tour! Thank you so much to Ranger Gwilliam, our chaperone Mrs. McCants, and Carla Reece (Carmelo's mom) for the delicious tarts and Danish cookies (an island treat)!
    • Earth Month: (mini lessons and student notetaking) how satellites help and hinder global warming, great pacific garbage patch
  • Math
    • Sequence and patterns: review sequences and patterns lessons from last week, nth term, function machines
    • MashUp Math: I see, I think, I wonder
  • English
    • Root -ject-
    • Intro to Information Books and begin research (The class will be using previous and new research to generate Ebooks about climate change. The overall topic is assigned, but they get to choose the chapter sub-topics based on interest and research trail!) 
  • Science
    • Climate change and its effect on animals -- students finished their research then presented their findings
    • Review properties of metals and non-metals, acids and alkalis
    • Learned about how coral was used as a building material (blocks and mortar)
  • Social Studies/Global Perspectives
    • China: Reading and discussion about geography, Early dynasties
